Read the widths carefully. Upper thickness = stage-labelled rank-one retrieval hits attached to operator turns, not cost. A trailing three-day arithmetic mean uses available days at the left edge (one, then two, then three); the curves linearly join daily means. Dates use the operator-turn timestamp. The faint tick row gives unsmoothed daily totals. Two turns carry multiple retrievals. September 21 is partial, through 17:19 UTC.
The integral column uses exact raw counts. Smoothing changes the area inside a finite window; its geometric area is not the count integral. Two-pixel surface-coloured separator strokes are visual cuts, not quantities; very thin slices can be obscured. “None” keeps its measured thickness, in grey, rather than an invented minimum.
Lower panel: horizontal length = gap duration; vertical thickness = logged Codex input + output tokens in that entire gap, including cached input. This is not plan usage, billing, or unique text. Dashed hairlines mean no retained qualifying token event, not zero. The first gap starts before August 22: its duration is clipped here, but its full-window token total is retained. Bar area is duration × tokens, not a token integral. No recorded operator turn is not proof of physical absence, and no connector implies that an upper-stream turn caused a lower-panel job.
